The open art salon at Liljevalchs Konsthall opens the doors to the public today. A yearly event, highly appreciated and visited by the public. A mix of professional artists and amateurs are selected every year by a special jury, in this Vårsalong. This year with an emphasis on realistic painting. Perhaps a sign of our time or just reflecting the jury's taste. The Liljevalchs art venue belogs to the City of Stockholm and opened in 1916, situated in Djugården.

Branobel History Project

We all know of the history of the famous Alfred Nobel, his dynamite and his testament to start the international Nobel Prize, in the end of the 19th century.  Less known in the amazing story of his brothers Ludwig and Robert, and their industrial development in Azerbaijan, St Petersburg etc.  Center for Business History in Stockholm is working on digitalizing the archives of the Branoil history in Baku, and the web site will open this summer. An exhibition on the Oil Histor in Azeerbaijan can be seen at the Economy Museum in Stockholm right now. If you are interested, you can suscribe on the newsletter branobelhistory@naringslivshistoria.se . Svensk Form is planning to open a new web site on contemporary Swedish Design in collaboration with the Center for Business History, as a complement to our historical design archive www.designarkiv.se Our start-up meeting is today.

17 Swedish Designers opening in Las Vegas

Idag tar 17 svenska kvinnliga designer över scenen i Las Vegas.

My friend and old classmate Lena Walther, who is now our Swedish Consul in Nevada invites on her facebook:  The World Market Center and The Consulate of Sweden are inviting you to attend an exciting exhibit to learn more about Swedish Design. The Exhibition "17 Swedish Designers" has been touring in the US during 2010 and is now featured during the Furniture & Accessory Show, Jan 24-28, 2011, at the World Market Center in Las Vegas. Please come and listen to a special Presentation by a prominent Swedish designer, Anna von Schewen. Good luck Anna and Lena! Send more photos!

Arkitekturmuseet live until March 13

The Museum of Architecture goes live for seven weeks inviting the public to engage in talks, seminars, installations and work shops on design, architecture and sustainable development. I was invited to run the PechaKucha c/o Arkitekturmuseet for one night , with five admirable young speakers on the theme of urban ecology and farming. All deeply involved with an amazing and responsible engagement. See their presentations directly on the webb.http://arkitekturmuseetlive.se/

Again out of need and urgency!

Visit by Svid and Sveriges Designer

Today we had a meeting with the Swedish Designers' organisation and Swedish Industrial Design Foundation. The purpose was to find out our common denominators and goals for the implementation of the action plan for the cultural and creative industries, which the Swedish Government has launched.  We need a common ground and close collaboration in order to unite in our demands and cooperation with the ministries and authorities involved in the execution of the public action plan. Same efforts that I have noticed is going on among most of our European colleagues. More collaboration needed.

Colourful trio at the office

Had to take out my camera when I spotted this colourful trio in our office this morning. Our neighbors from Sustainable Technology Funds - renting the upstairs of our offices -  a great team team . It is a privat equity growth fund seeking investment opportunities in companies within Sustainable Technologies - Cleantech.

Sense of urgency needed to make necessary changes

Mattias Andersson, Christine Sundberg Carendi, Ewa Kumlin at Stockholm School of Business at their Leading Change Conference Day - SSE  Executive MBA - I was invited to participate in the presentation of Christine and Mattias who has worked on Svensk Form and membership as their special case

I understood that they are having a lot of fun in this working group at the same time as they are very serious of course

Svensk Forms' members are quite satisfied with their membership, they stay on an average 3,6 years in our society. If only we could keep members for 6 years, it would make a tremendous impact. Also we should aim for 7000 members for next year.

Jenny Lantz PhD and program Director for this EMBA -  also a newly appointed board member of Svensk Form - special knowledge on tendencies in membership societies today

From the invitation: "At the head of the Executive MBA at the Stockholm School of Economics is a learning model that permits participants to combine theory and experience in order to generate actionable knowledge. Based on the notion that a core management capability is that of leading and implementing change, the course Leading Change has equipped participants with theories of change and a change project" - in our case Svensk Form - we are so very lucky. Thank you Christine and Mattias!

Formex - Glorious mix of old and new

Glitter and glamour, mixed and matched were some of the themes brought out during this Formex fair in Stokholm. Old and worn are mixed with shine and jet set styling. Quite a bit of humour also, which is refreshing. Jan Rundgren is the creator behind this year's concept installation in the entrance square under the title Glorious Mix. Young Designers' Lounge told the story of The Glorious Life of the Maharadja, by talented Karin Robling. I walked around and found some new and old favorites, and also had time for some business meetings. Usually I get an overdose of visual impressions while walking around at Formex, but this time it was just right.

My absolute favourite at Formex: Wonderland - Lady, Rabbit, Bird - candleholders by young British Designer Stephen Johnson produced by Men at Work in collaboraton with Los Angeles based company Artecnica. Material: 100 % recycled aliminium covered with white lacquer fihish.

10-gruppen still going strong since 1970. Ingela Håkansson one of the founders presented some new patterns and told me of the many requests from a new group of very young consumers

Klässbols, always classic, met up with silver shine

Tove Adman and her concrete objects have been around for a while, but I was struck by the poetry in her concrete table with the old croché-table cloth molded right into the surface of the table top and it works! Visually and practically.

Young happy brands joined in one stand and filled it with their joy and entrepreneurial spirit: Emmy Little with traditional items from Dalarna in new interpretation, Mrs Murphy, Lovika and ...

Rättvikskullor on a new scarf by Emmy Little

Nittsjö has taken up this 18th century pattern again in their production since a few years,

Progressive work by Frösö handtryck - a small textile hand printing company from the north
Artists Lisbeth Malm (glas tops) and Björn Gimstedt (iron) makes useful tables and art pieces in one. Would like to come and join our PechaKucha one day to tell us more about their process
Anders Wisth from Möbelriket meets with Teresa Lundgren, succesful owner of Mateus - this time multitalented Synnove Mork has designed her stand at Formex. Anders Wisth had brought an exhibition with young design students from Möbelriket to show their best work at Formex. Anders and I took the opportunity to meet and talk about Milano, Berlin and other target cities for joint Swedish design events.

Jan Rundgrens concept exhibition, mixing old and new, glamour and glitter in Glorious Mix

Usually overwhelmed while stepping into Formex with the overflow of things, but this time it seemed calmer, more open and less crowded.

Danish Normann renewal of old classics and some news below in cork and also the seemingly old fashioned ceramic bowls for the oven, where you have a practical opening to poor the juice from
