I am really embarrassed that Stockholm does not yet have a Design Museum or a Design center, despite us talking so much about design, and despite the view from the outer world on Sweden as a design nation. So many international visitors come here and ask: where is your design museum, where can I see contemporary design? Well, the National Museum and the shops is the basic answer so far. Today the meeting place for design and craft is located at the Museum of Architecture covering the whole design and architectural field. But we still need a Design Museum or a Design center - or actually BOTH! We have been close many times, last time in 2007, when both were on the political agenda. Then the debate died. Now it seems like it is starting over again, and I am actually sensing a bit of optimism. Maybe it is starting to move forward again?
